Website Edits: Two Possible Approaches

When our studio receives a request from a client to make specific edits to a website, there are generally two possible approaches:
1. Making Changes Directly on the Live Website
In this case, the studio needs to be added as a temporary admin to the site. Once access is granted, we can log in and implement the necessary changes directly on the live site.
2. Duplicating the Site for Major Edits
When the requested changes are more substantial and could potentially affect the functionality of the live site, we may recommend duplication of the existing website. This allows us to safely apply changes in a separate environment that is not currently live.Once all changes have been completed and thoroughly tested, we assist the client in transferring the hosting and domain from the old site to the new, updated version. This process is safer for the client and ensures that the live website remains fully functional during the development period, with no risk of disruptions.
What the Client Needs to Do:
Log in to the dashboard of the current (live) website
Duplicate the site
Transfer ownership of the duplicated site to the studio
After the project is complete, the studio will transfer ownership of the new site back to the client
Transfer the hosting plan and domain from the old site to the new site
Helpful Wix Guides:
How to transfer ownership of a site Note: Make sure to transfer ownership of the duplicated site, not the live site!
Important to Know:
Inbox history and purchase history will not be transferred in this process. They will remain on the original (old) site. If needed, the client can still access the old site’s dashboard to view all historical data.
Good luck!
